Had I never seen "Sex Box," I might think the display in this scene to be extremely rough. Two guys in ski masks choking out a whore with nylon rope before "raping" her is some seriously hardcore material. And yet, it's just unrealistic enough to be safe. The cheesy dramatic music in the background and the cliché verbal threats that the guys throw out sound more like a radio classic from the 1950's than a porno movie. It could have been marketed as an erotic thriller, only appropriate for late night listeners. The only drawback would be that the audience would miss out on Mickey's twenty minutes of jerking and Jewel's soap opera die job (death, not hair). I haven't seen this much fake blood since my high school drama club production of "Macbeth."

Of all the places that I expected to hear one of my favorite Billy Joel songs pop up, this was hovering at the bottom of the list . . .right above an episode of "Rock of Love." Ironically, the two share several similarities. There is an aging sex symbol, a big titted whore, lots of smoking and awkward fucking that will likely result in some strain of venereal disease. If nothing else, Shay probably got a rash from all the foliage. The weird part is that the song actually fits. It sets a damned near perfect tone for the melodramatic depiction of a jaded youth reclaiming his dignity through a warped, yet all too familiar fantasy. I realize that's not even close to what Billy is talking about in his song, but music is all about finding a connection. Regardless of lyrics, the meandering melody is a powerful backdrop to a piece of Zupko that I'm compelled to like in spite of myself.
