FTV is really about documenting the girl next door looking her absolute best. While few of the models are awe-inspiring traffic stoppers, they would all be worthy of a quick double take if met on the street. Attention has been paid to the outfits, hair and make-up; enough so to give the site a uniform look. It also shows that the creators are thoughtfully making sure the content can reach as broad a base as possible since most of the sets touch on at least these three distinct wardrobe styles – teen, everyday and glamour.
Usually under the opinion that Americans dress too casually, I tend to prefer their glamour shoots. For me any appeal to be found in teen or everyday styles is through the use of contrast - contrasting the childish innocence or mundane normality of the styles with stunning beauty, femininity and sexuality. Thus, my mild lack of enthusiasm is then magnified when most of the site’s models often match those styles. So we have attractive, but somewhat average models spending their time mostly in attractive, but somewhat average outfits. The prognosis it seems is: attractive, but somewhat average.
Not so – for the eye-opener and ace up this site’s sleeve is yet to come. FTV isn’t just about its models, as the V in its title should point out. It’s about what its models do. What is really telling is the outré content identification system on the update postings. They color the date of the update to indicate if it is Softcore (Yellow), Intense (Orange) or Extreme (Red). One glance at a yellow post points out that FTV isn’t using the usual rulebook, for I have yet to find a “softcore” post that doesn’t include dildo play. Apparently Playboy is a distant and unfamiliar realm for this crowd.
What, you might ask, qualifies as “extreme” for this crew? You’ll see double penetration, fisting, squirting, public sex (lesbian) and some extremely large dildos in all the favorite holes. It seems to include anything that lies in the realm of solo or lesbian behavior and is deemed probably legal in the United States (oh those obscenity laws are so vague). A number of the girls are trying to be professional models to some degree and you may see them running the gauntlet of the various pro-amateur porn sites. Few are exclusive picks for FTV, and some are even seasoned pros, Shy Love for example. Yet the wealth of rather new faces makes it so the title of “First Time” doesn’t seem too implausible.
The attraction of the site’s video content is its focus on providing un-choreographed and natural behavior from the models. The video isn’t edited to hide directions from the videographer. You’ll hear the command and see the response, and that makes it easier to see when the models are behaving on their own initiative, giving you that voyeuristic appeal that many amateur sites try to market for.
The videos are divided up in little episodes - five to ten minute clips of a set activity, be it a bit of public flashing or spending time with a vibrator. The clips will often be cut off at the switching of a toy, so if you can spend time with just your favorite performances. Honestly it’s a style of presentation that I’ve never been real keen on but it is extremely popular with today’s culture. I listen to a whole album, from start to finish, even if I picked it out because I was thinking of one song. I treat my porn the same way, but in the era of iTunes with made-to-order music selections, FTV’s made-to-order porn is right in step.
The photos of course are posed and the locations are picked for interesting lighting as they don’t use artificial lighting. In consequence, they keep their camera’s aperture way open so the field of focus can be irritatingly narrow – I’ve seen shots were literally only the clitoris was in focus. While the photos have good framing and editing, it tends to be a bit over exposed for my taste, washing out some of the color.
It is more so in the video which has that digital color washout that’s oft associated, in its extremes, with security cameras. The photos’ lighting is a product of one of the site’s strengths: public nudity. It’s hard to be inconspicuous with a crew carrying lights around behind you. That combined with the fact that they have an eye for catching the right moments, I think it is a fair trade, even if I might not have done the same.
So my complaints may lie in irresolvable differences in style. They are one of the older sites around and have honed their style now for seven years. The site itself has evolved quite a bit over the years. I personally found it relatively confusing at first with its long pages of content and lack of a search engine; but then use of my browser’s find feature and the eventuality of becoming acquainted with the site’s idiosyncrasies changed my complaints to a low murmur. The content is sorted by name and date, plus the descriptive text is standardized enough for the browser’s find feature to work well. The fact that I pine for a fancy search engine is more a sign of my own laziness than it is a harsh attack on the site’s effectiveness. Proper integration of a search engine for them would require a ground up redesign that would probably alienate some old customers and would be a job of Herculean proportions.
In the end, FTV Girls has a good product. Not without its faults, but they are outweighed by its strengths. The models are comfortable, friendly and performing rather hardcore activities while remaining impulsive enough to still surprise and entertain. Any viewer with an obsession for action involving real penises or runway glamour may want to look elsewhere, but most will find FTV to be a pretty satisfying and comfortable habitat once they get settled in.
